American Crocodile

(Crocodylus acutus)

Meet my snappy friend! You can still see these on most waterways throughout Costa Rica but sadly they are on the decline. There is an attempt to rescue and help them but because of the nature and a bad rap for this species macho humans still taunt and harm. There is still to this day an annual crocodile hunt in Costa Rica; the person who catches the largest Croc hand wins, followed by a drunken festival.  Although the animal is not killed I suspect much harm as been done to subdue it. There are a few human deaths every year pointing toward the Crocodile however we have seen children swimming in rivers not more than a hundred yards away from basking crocodiles. Good sense does not seem to prevail.

The record length in C.R is 23 feet
